Welcome back!

Welcome to all parents and students to the new school year.  I hope that everyone is having a wonderful and restful summer vacation!  School is fast approaching.  I am very excited to be your principal for the second year at Merritt Bench Elementary and it is my hope that as the year progresses you will continue to participate and feel welcomed in our school community.

To Parents/Guardians:

I encourage you to communicate with the staff, be a part of the programs we offer and read over the Student Handbook with your child/children.  It is one of our goals at Bench to work with you to create a rich learning environment that meets the individual needs of your child/children and for all students.  Student success and growth is a shared responsibility between the school staff, students and parents/guardians.

This year holds some change.  We have lost some staff, but also gained some.  Our classes, aside from Kindergarten, will be split grades.  It is a very exciting time.  It is my hope that we can celebrate learning this year and that you will meet any challenges with determination and excitement.

Education is a joint venture between school and home.  As we work with our students to help them learn about the world around them through prescribed curriculum, we very much appreciate the support that parents give there children at home as they strive to reach their learning goals.  The foundation of a school is cooperation between students, staff, parents and community.  Parents and guardians are a vital part of the the Bench School Community and your contributions are invaluable to the school through volunteer time and support of school activities.

I look forward to working with you and developing a relationship that will assist in the growth of your child/children.

To Students:

I have missed you all and look forward to seeing you and hearing about your summers and what you have been up to.  If you are new to the school, I look forward to meeting you and hearing about you – what you like to do at school and outside, about your family, about your dreams and goals.

The staff and I want you to know that we are here to help you.  The work we do together in school is important.  YOU are valuable and we want you to feel supported and enjoy your school experience.  Whether the learning that you encounter is easy or more challenging know that making mistakes and asking for help is an opportunity to learn and grow. We are here to help you with any obstacles you may have as the school year progresses.

School should be a fun experience.  We encourage you to try new things, join activities, get to know new and different friends and enjoy your time at Merritt Bench Elementary.

I am excited with the  new year, with new opportunities and with your help and ideas creating a fun environment!

Ms. Mathieu
